Professor Marie-Eve Sylvestre Selected for Membership to Global Young Academy

Posted on Tuesday, February 13, 2018

Professor Marie-Eve Sylvestre has been selected for membership to the prestigious Global Young Academy (GYA), a group of outstanding young scientists and scholars from around the world.

Professor Sylvestre has emerged as a true pioneer in exposing invisible practices of discrimination and injustice against marginalized and poor populations in the criminal justice system. Her comprehensive understanding of marginalization and the universal reach of her research distinguishes her as one of Canada’s brightest young researchers on law and poverty issues. Membership in the Global Young Academy will allow Professor Sylvestre to expand the scope of her important work, and will expose her to new perspectives, increasing the relevance of her research.

The GYA provides a rallying point for outstanding young scientists and scholars from around the world, developing, connecting, and mobilizing new talent from six continents.  The Academy seeks to empower young researchers to lead international, interdisciplinary, and intergenerational dialogue with the goal to make global decision making evidence-based and inclusive.

Also selected to join the GYA, from the Faculty of Law’s Common Law Section, was Professor Sarah Morales, increasingly recognized as one of our nation’s leading scholars on Indigenous issues with a specific focus on Indigenous laws and legal traditions.

Visit the Global Young Academy website, or follow the Academy on Facebook and Twitter.

Congratulations to Professor Sylvestre!
