Sarah Ali et Ho-Ly Ha

Sarah Ali and Ho-Ly Ha were selected from thousands of applicants from around the world

For some, summer doesn’t mean a vacation! Sarah Ali and Ho-Ly Ha were selected from thousands of applicants from around the world to be part of the team organizing the 2020 National Model United Nations in New York, the largest and most prestigious university-level model UN in the world! They have the opportunity to work as members of a diverse, international team.

Ali and Ha were part of the Civil Law Section team that competed at the 2019 National Model United Nations, also in New York . Even though this was the first time the section had participated in the event, the team received an honourable mention!

But for Ali and Ha, the story didn’t end there — it’s now continuing with the organizing team for this prestigious competition.

They will act as assistant directors for the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. Their mission?  First of all, to help write a background guide delegates to the next model UN will work from. It’s a mammoth task in which Ali and Ha will try to fully reflect current issues in international law. They will receive publication credit for their contribution.

As well, they will, of course, be in New York in 2020 (Ali at conference A, taking place from March 29 to April 2 and Ha at conference B, from April 5 to 9).During the event, they will be responsible for facilitating the commission’s work and ensuring the Model UN runs smoothly. They will also have the opportunity to meet and chat with leading UN figures!

Becoming part of the National Model United Nations organizing team is an outstanding accomplishment for Ali and Ha, but also a well-deserved reward for the two, who put a great deal into the application process over the past year.  Who knows where Ali and Ha will land up… Will they continue to climb the ladder, until one becomes National Model United Nations secretary general?  That’s our wish.

Congratulations to Sarah Ali and Ho-Ly Ha! The Civil Law Section is very proud of you.
