The Civil Law Section is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Emmanuelle Bernheim to the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists, “Canada’s first national system of multidisciplinary recognition for the emerging generation of Canadian intellectual leadership” (RSC, The College).
The Alex Trebek Forum for Dialogue at the University of Ottawa is supporting the creation of a new research project on water regulation and governance. The project will use water-related issues as a lens to identify climate change-induced problems and their ramifications, and then make recommendations to multi-level policymakers.
In a rapidly evolving legal landscape where big corporations leverage their economic power and influence to avoid being criminally prosecuted for their crimes, Professor Jennifer Quaid stands out as one of only a select few scholars in Canada actively conducting research on how the criminal law is applied to organizations. As a part of three newly-funded research projects, she is set to further contribute to our understanding of how law can be used to stimulate good governance and ethical business practices, while reaching across disciplines to establish compelling new research partnerships.
The University of Ottawa’s Public Law Centre has enthusiastically welcomed Professor David Robitaille, a Full Professor in the Civil Law Section, as its new Co-Director. He joins Professor Vanessa MacDonnell of the Common Law Section in a unique partnership between the two sections.
Edited by Colleen M. Flood, Vanessa MacDonnell, Jane Philpott, Sophie Theriault, and Sridhar Venkatapuram, Vulnerable: The Law, Policy & Ethics of COVID-19 confronts the vulnerabilities and interconnectedness exposed by the pandemic, along with our legal and policy responses.
