Salvatore Digesto joined the Faculty of Law’s Research Office in October 2020. As Research Advisor, his role is to provide advice and support to researchers in developing their research projects and to help promote research opportunities at the Faculty of Law. Dr. Digesto holds a doctorate in Linguistics from the University of Ottawa, where he specialized in quantitative sociolinguistics. His research focuses on non-standard linguistic behaviour, particularly in Italian and French, and tackles issues related to minority languages, bilingualism, outcomes of language contact, as well as the relationship between prescription, language prestige and praxis.
In 2019, he joined the international research project CAPES-PrInt Initiative at the Universidade Estadual Paulista, Brazil as a Co-Investigator. The project Language diversity within and across modalities: Confronting societal challenges and combating linguistic prejudice examines non-standard/stigmatized linguistic behaviour in the grammatical system of Brazilian Portuguese, English, French and Italian.
